Over the weekend of June 2 – 3 we welcomed 22 guests to our Introductory Retreat. And more than 25 retreat guests participated in Rev. Master Meian’s Shobogenzo: The Everyday Practice of the Buddhas and Ancestors held from June 18th through the 25th.
Lotus, Rev. Master Kodo’s new 6-week old kitten, arrived at Wesak and has settled in nicely since. She is a sweet part-Maine Coon cat who loves to play!
On June 12, 2017, Rev. Master Jisho was celebrant for the funeral of James Dorr. Jim had visited the Abbey a few months ago before taking a trip to Mexico where he died unexpectedly in his sleep. Jim was a member of the Santa Barbara Buddhist Priory when Rev. Master Jisho was Prior there.
On Saturday, June 11, 2107 we held a Great Compassion Vigil. This moving ceremony offering merit and inviting a greater awareness of compassion in our world was open to the wider Mount Shasta community. Father Larry Holben from
St. Barnabas Episcopal Church attended as did several members of his congregation. Many other friends of the Abbey joined us as well.
Rev. Master Shiko offered a retreat to the Bear River Meditation Group on Saturday, June 10th, 2017 on Meditation: Let Go of the Past, Let Go of the Future. The day included periods of meditation, Short Morning Service, and a Dharma talk and discussion.
